Interim Head of Service
I joined CCS in August 2015 as the Interim Head of Service with over 30 year’s experience, in both the private sector and a number of authorities across the country, specialising in Education and Commercial Catering and Cleaning at Head of Service level.
For the last four years I have been working with APSE as an associate consultant/interim manager and as a consultant/interim manager for the past six years.
With a wealth of experience in school and commercial catering, building cleaning, security, courier, CCTV, telephony and front of house reception services, I am looking forward to working with all the staff in CCS to meet the current challenges facing the authority and take the service to the next level.
I joined CCS in September 2002 as a Contract Manager, having spent a number of years working in similar roles for Suffolk school meals. In January 2009 I was promoted to Operations Manager with CCS. Since moving to the role of General Manager I have taken on the responsibility for the direct delivery of CCS services through the five Contract Managers in order to achieve agreed operational targets and contract requirements.
A large part of my job involves managing food service development, including recipes, menus, sourcing and purchasing in conjunction with our dietitian to ensure compliance with nutritional standards, allergen requirements and to promote healthy eating. I also have line management responsibility for CCS’ kitchen and catering equipment service.
I recently joined CCS with over 15 years’ experience in the food safety and catering industry creating, promoting, and delivering training solutions.
For the past eight years, I worked for Norse Commercial Services as a Learning and Development Manager, designing and delivering successful programmes from accredited qualifications to in-house courses that support and develop standards and also build knowledge.
In my role as Training Manager, I am responsible for managing the delivery of effective quality training programmes to improve efficiencies, skills, knowledge and raise standards.
I am passionate about creating an interactive and enjoyable learning environment that supports staff development, as learning plays such a significant part in all of our lives.
I moved to Cambridge in April 2013 to fill the newly created CCS Dietitian position, after a couple of years spent working as a Catering Dietitian in London. As part of my role, I ensure that menus meet government food standards and I help to improve the nutritional balance of recipes popular among children, by choosing healthier ingredients and cooking methods. I am also responsible for helping the business comply with the most up to date food labelling legislation and nutrition regulations.
Moreover, a great part of my time is spent working with parents, school caterers and other staff to enable children with food allergies or other medical conditions to have a safe meal every day together with their friends at school.
Nutritionist (Public Health)
A registered Nutritionist (Public Health), I’m on a mission to improve the eating habits of every child. I am currently working with CCS on their SMART Choice Programme, a value added service for schools wanting to adopt a Whole School Approach to Food.
I have a background in Public Health Nutrition working within the NHS and then more latterly, within Education Catering.
My role at CCS is to partner with schools and their stakeholders to champion food provision and the lunch time environment. Offering ‘Healthy Me’ Assemblies, practical cooking lessons and supporting schools in developing a culture of healthy eating. This is our opportunity to demonstrate and role-model what healthy looks like, setting children on the pathway into healthy adulthood.
Commercial Contract Manager, Catering
I joined CCS in July 2015 as Commercial Contract Manager with responsibility for Secondary Schools in Cambridgeshire, the commercial outlets at Shire Hall and Cambridge Central Library and Primary Schools in East Cambridgeshire and Suffolk.
I have an extensive Hotel and Catering background with Marriott, Forte Hotels and the Real Hotel Company. For the last 6 years I worked as a consultant for the banking industry with a wide variety of catering outlets in all parts of the UK.
Contract Manager, Catering
I joined CCS in November 2008 as a Peripatetic Caterer, moving into the role of secondary school Catering Supervisor in July 2009. In September 2011, I was promoted to the position of Contract Manager for the Fenland and East Cambridgeshire area. I have responsibility for the school catering contracts and a large part of my job involves meeting with head teachers, governors and bursars to ensure we are providing a food service that meets their expectations and the contract requirements. My job also involves recruitment and managing and development of the kitchen teams . I am also part of the menu development working group.
Contract Manager, Catering
I joined CCS as Contract Manager in September 2014 having worked previously for 17 years in the same role with Norfolk school meals. I have always worked in catering throughout my career in a range of establishments from both private and branded commercial restaurant chains, moving into school meals in 1997. This is a very exciting and challenging time to be joining CCS with the introduction of Universal Infant Free School Meals, but with my previous skills and knowledge at all levels of the school meal service, together with managing multiple sites and staff, liaising with customers, clients and suppliers, I am confident that this gives me a great insight and understanding of the issues and challenges ahead.
My responsibilities include the management of the catering service within my area, ensuring high quality, healthy and nutritious meals are delivered on a daily basis whilst working in partnership with CCS staff, schools, headteachers and customers to continuously review and improve the service given.
Contract Manager, Catering
I am an enthusiastic Contract Manager with an accountable track record of success in primary schools, mainly due to my entrepreneurial approach to management.
With over 16 years' experience in the school meals service in East Anglia, initially as a School Caterer, I am passionate about providing nutritious, tasty meals to children.
I look after the catering provision for schools in the Cambridge and Essex areas and work closely with Headteachers and my catering teams with the aim of achieving outstanding food service.
I am a complete foody. I love growing, cooking and eating good food and sharing with other people, the fruits of my labours!
Contract Manager, Catering
I started my catering career at Manchester University working at John Dalton College as Assistant Catering Manager, catering for up to 1000 students a day. In 1985, I joined CCS and worked as a Forerunner at the Central Production Unit which was originally based in Cambridge. In my current role as Contract Manager I am responsible for the staffing, stock control and service development for 48 school kitchens in the Huntingdon and Peterborough areas.
I joined CCS in April 1993 as a part time Business Support Assistant, moving into the role of Business Support Officer dealing with kitchen repairs and processing invoices.
In October 2013, I was promoted to the position of Resources Manager with responsibility for the kitchen equipment in CCS contracted schools within Cambridgeshire. A large part of my job is to ensure that school kitchens are compliant with Environmental Health & Safety legislation. I regularly visit the school kitchens to assess their operational needs.
In addition, I oversee kitchen designs for new schools on behalf of Cambridgeshire County Council.
Contract Manager, Cleaning
I joined CCS in September 1993 as Cleaning Service Manager having previously been employed as the Client Officer for cleaning services across Cambridgeshire monitoring the CCT contracts from 1989. I became a Contracts Manager for the cleaning service in December 2008 and have the responsibility of delivering a cost effective cleaning service to our contracted sites working to an ISO registered quality standard. In all I have 38 years experience within the cleaning industry.
Cleaning Services Manager (South)
I joined CCS as a Cleaning Supervisor and Training Officer in September 2011 with years of experience in the cleaning industry. I have very much enjoyed my role in the company, working with the schools that I have supervised and cleaners and caretakers that I had to train.
In November 2013, I became the ISO Internal Auditor for CCS Cleaning, responsible for monitoring the quality system and making sure that the procedures are followed by CCS and any issues raised are rectified.
In August 2015, I moved into the Cleaning Services Manager position and I am responsible for managing a number of schools in my area, South Cambridgeshire, delivering a high level of service working together with the schools and looking after our employees.
Part of my role is to recruit staff, visit schools, deal with issues, quote for new contracts and look after current contracts.
