SMART Choice Programme - A Whole School Approach
Putting Health and Wellbeing at the heart of the Primary School agenda.
Today nearly a third of children aged 2-15 are overweight or obese and younger generations are becoming obese at earlier ages. Obesity is a complex problem with many influences including behaviour, environment and culture.
Schools are well placed to make positive influences at a very early stage, providing children with the opportunities to support healthy eating and shape healthy habits.
New Ofsted Healthy Eating Rating Scheme
From September 2017, a new voluntary healthy rating scheme for primary schools will be introduced to help recognise and encourage the contribution made to preventing obesity and helping children to eat better. This scheme will be taken into account by Ofsted.
How can your school benefit from the SMART Choice programme?
CCS can help your school establish a Whole School Food and Nutrition policy via a partnership approach which ensures that food, health and wellbeing are an integral part of the school ethos.
Participating schools have access to a number of fun, interactive assemblies, practical cookery classes and workshops. These help to develop a culture of healthy eating and an increased understanding of the benefits of eating well on individual health and wellbeing.
- Helps pupils to be the best they can, both physically and academically.
- Provides evidence for Ofsted’s new common inspection framework.
- Enables schools to clearly demonstrate to their wider community how they are helping tackle childhood obesity, health and wellbeing.
